how do train a dog to become a hunting dog?

Buy a toy that looks like a "squirel" a "duck" that squeaks, then hide it in different places, (when he finds it first) prase him.
Once he can find them easily move to (fetching after finding). Also, when they eat, drop a book, hard sometimes so they are used to the sound of guns.BTW, for people that say hunting is not ok, well, let me tell you "your chicken, your beef, etc" doesnt grow in super markets and no, cows dont come in packages/

does anybody know of dog training or agility classes in bolton? i live in Heaton near the town center so not too far away as i dont drive

In the past I have used paper training and frequent walks.
What has worked best for you?

I have four dogs and with each we tried something different…

- take the dog out for a walk right after meals and if the dog is pacing
- hang a bell by a string on whatever door you use to take the dog out and ring it everytime you take the dog out, eventually the dog will ring the bell whenever he/she wants to go out
- use paper or "wee-wee" pads and slowly transfer them outside so that the dog learns where to go
- if you have an older dog walk the puppy with the older dog; the puppy will watch the older dog and follow what he/she does

no matter what you do always praise the dog afterwords by either petting him/her or giving him/her a treat

are there any schools in the area of louisville ky or bowling green ky that offers training to become a certified dog obedience trainer? or does anyone know if the online courses are legit? I am interested in doing work to train police and personal protection dogs. If anyone has any advice on how to do this please share your info . thanks!

Here’s what my research found. The "best" national organization is the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, (APDT). They are a professional organization of individual trainers who – in their own words – are committed to becoming better trainers through education. They have created a certification process. My dog has been throwing up alot, and shes otherwise healthy according to the vet. I think it might be her dog food (authority) and i was wondering what the best all-natrual dog food would be. I know theres nutro, but there has to be something better than that.

Is your dog throwing up food? Or is she throwing up bile?

Through trial and error, I figured out that my dog Bailey throws up yellow bile if her tummy is empty. So I divide her daily ration into 4 servings, and feed her at breakfast, lunch, supper, and bedtime. It’s sometimes not convenient, but I don’t mind doing it if it makes her feel better.

Another problem I’ve noticed with dogs is that they sometimes eat too fast, and that causes them to throw up after eating. If that’s what’s going on with your dog, spread the kibbles out over a dinner plate so that she can’t gulp such big mouthfuls.

Getting a new dog for the family (2 kids aged 12 and 14) around christmas and we already have an 8 yr old part Corgie part Westhighland Terrier that is a female. What are te best breeds that would get along well with her?

Since chocolate is poison for dogs, i suggest you not take the first suggestion.

ask the trainer but I think any of the smaller reward treats you find in any good pet store will suffice.

I have an English Cocker Spaniel and a history of hunting pheasant with English Setters. I have researched and discovered that Springer Spaniels are the most popular breed of hunting Spaniels, but could I train a good hunting dog out of my Spaniel breed?

From everything I’ve heard they make excellent flushing dogs. You should have very little trouble with this endeavor.

I have got myself a job (yaaaaaaay!) at a dog training centre, I will be helping out with beginner dogs and in the e-mail the owner of the centre says I will need to help dogs get a "good weave entry"……… problem is I do not know how to do this!! She said I can spend a few hours watching classses to get the idea of how to do it, but I wanted some information and help beforehand. Can someone please give me advice on how to train dogs to weave? Any informative websites will be appreciated!

What a brilliant job, congratulations. I taught my dogs to do this with individual poles, its a bit difficult to explain this. However the poles were slanted and if they were viewed from the end, they were a V shape. Some people slot a wire through the poles to stop the dog from missing the poles.

There are so many different ways of teaching a dog to weave that I think that taking advise on here is pointless because each dog responds to a different method. In any event you must use the methods that are used at the training centre.

If you are not starting your new job for a while, I think that you should go and watch beforehand. If you do this you will gain more knowledge and earn a lot of browny points from your new employers.

I used to train my dogs in the garden, in addition to going to a club every week. I have a book written by Ruth Hob day called "Agility is Fun" and it helped enormously. I also bought video’s and this helped too.

My parents have 8 dogs, with a Miniature Schnauzer as the smallest. She is 3 years old and for the last year and a half she has had problems going to the bathroom in the house. My parents tried crating her at night but she is now going to the bathroom in the crate. Now, she goes inside even after being let outside. Any help would be appreciated, as my parents now want to get rid of her.

Could be a medical problem – has she been to vet for this problem? If no medical problem, try re-housetraining (similar to puppies, but should go faster). See link for step by step guide for how to re-train older dog.
