I've fed all my adult dogs (currently 6 of them) Science Diet dry small bites all their lives (going on 8 years). I have NEVER had any illnesses of any kind and they all get rave reviews at their vet checks. And we were unaffected when that big dog food recall hit a while back. For puppies, I feed them both the canned and the dry Science Diet for puppies. Again, thank God, we've had nothing but success (going on 5 years). I know there are differing opinions about processed dog foods, but I've never been convinced to change from what works!

Feeding your dog holistic (natural) foods is the best choice. These foods are more easily digested and absorbed by the dog, which translates to less food consumed and less poo. After researching extensively on dog foods and trying out a few, I would recommend Wellness or Solid Gold. Buy the dry food for puppies and it'll work wonders! I wouldn't feed my new puppy anything else.
References :
http://www.the-puppy-dog-place.com/best-dog-food.html

There are a lot of really great dog foods out there for all levels of finances.

http://www.dogaware.com/dogfeeding.html#commercial is a great site to research foods, as is http://www.dogfoodproject.com/index.php?page=main

For the most part if you can buy it in a grocery store you shouldn't feed it to your dog. (There are of course exceptions)
