These dogs have a remarkable sense of smell and keen eyesight, and passion for the hunt. Once they’re on the trail, it’s impossible to stop them by commands; the dog has been bred for just the one goal in mind, to hunt. Choosing the walker dog to hunt with is a decision the hunter will never regret. The walker has a history dating back to the 1700′s and George Washington. Washington and his friend John W. Walker bred their dogs with the foxhound in the hopes of creating a superior hunter. The walker hunting dog was born and continued to be bred for centuries. Today the walker is often used for hunting deer because of their lean bodies, speed, and agility. This breed is also popularly used on other game such as rabbit, fox, raccoon, and even larger game such as bear and wild boar. The hound picks up the animal’s scent with his remarkable sense of smell and is able to trail the animals for miles into deep woods. Once a walker has caught up with its prey it has a characteristic unique to this type of hound, it bays to alert the hunter and other dogs to it’s location. This unique sound won’t soon leave the mind of a newcomer to the hunt. It’s a pure sound that echoes through the forest. The dog often weighs upwards of 70 pounds and stands over two feet high. What’s remarkable about the walker hound is his sweet and gentle personality. They are amazing with children and are happy to sleep at the foot of the bed at night. They get along well with other dogs, which is a necessity because oftentimes they hunt in packs. The one thing a hunter should prepare for before getting a walker hound though, is the array of bays that will be heard for the rest of the dog’s life; from treed squirrels to strangers at the door, the dog excels at alerting those around him to the presence of other species. These dogs also have very high energy levels and need to be exercised regularly to be kept in shape and happy. When off the leash though, there main goal will always be hunting and sniffing, and if they’ve picked up on a trail, they won’t return until they’ve found their prey or they’re tired of the running. It is confined to just 15 states. The popular states are Kentucky, South Carolina, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, Alabama, Ohio, Florida, Hawaii, Oklahama and California. Each state has its own set of hunting laws. A satisfying hunting trip demands familiarity with all of them. If the hunter decides to take the services of an outfitter complete with guides and hog hunting dogs, some amount has to be shelled out as license fees. The wild boar is found in regions which have dense thickets. Big in size, it is known to be very alert and ferocious. Also, the animal senses danger from the whole group stalking it and so is cautious enough to keep itself well hidden. Therefore, the hog hunting dogs have to be exceptionally strong to be able to pin down such a wild creature!Like all other forms of game, there is a season set aside for hunting the wild boar. December and later is not a good time since it is mating time for these animals, and young ones are likely to be born. The sow digs out a shallow depression in the ground and places her litter in it. The sides are lined with branches and grass. Woe betides any hunter who dares to harm her or her young at this time–the encounter could prove fatal!Coming to the breed of hog hunting dogs, there are some that hunt the wild hogs which weigh between 200 to 400 pounds with the same ease that they hunt small squirrels! Actually, either personal conversation with an experienced hunter or with seasoned hunters via online blogs and forums, will give any hunter a fair idea about which dogs are best suited to hunt wild boar. There is the cur, which is loyal, energetic and versatile. It obeys all of the master’s commands instantly, whatever the task might be! So one set of people recommend getting another breed of dog like the Cane Corso or the American Bulldog to partner with the cur. Of the two hog hunting dogs, the cur is to be used as a bay dog, while the other one is meant for catching work. There are hybrid varieties of the standard American Bulldog. When the combination is that of a Mastiff, American Bulldog and English Bulldog, it is referred to as Johnson lines. The early settlers of America were keen on using Old English Whites and Scott lines American Bulldogs, believing them to be great hog hunting dogs. In fact, these breeds even hunted wild bulls!Another group of people swear by the abilities of the Pitt Bull mixes or Pitt Bull Terriers. Of course, the skeptics wonder how a hog weighing 400 pounds can be beaten by a Pitt!Australians and Argentinians keep other breeds as hog hunting dogs. While some prefer the Argentina Dogo, others go for the Blackmouth cur. The best one is supposed to be the Australian Bullarab. It has come from a 30-year mixed lineage of Grey Hound, Pointer and Bull Terrier. Both, wild boar and scrub bulls are easy prey for this dog! Both dog leash training and reward training have been around for quite awhile now, and over that time they have been shown to be effective in getting the respect of the dog. The leash and training collars for dog collar training are the most basic piece of training equipment used in dog leash training or in collar training dogs. The correct use of the lead and training collar in dog collar training is vital to any successful dog training. Dog collar training is used to get dogs trained as fast as possible in a way that is also humane. The way a training collar is used to apply a certain amount of pressure each time that the leash is tightened. This then controls the amount of pressure placed on the training collar, and this pressure can then be adjusted according to just how the dog responds to the dog leash training. Dog leash training is especially important in puppy training, since most dogs will not have a natural inclination to just follow by your side, but instead have a tendency to wander all over the place. Dog leash training used when collar training dogs can represent the best way to accomplish many kinds of dog collar training programs. This is especially true in where the dog must achieve a rather high level of reliability in some situation. As an example, where dogs may have an important job to do, such as with rescue dogs, police dogs and guard dogs, dogs in these roles would greatly benefit from dog leash and collar training. When starting dog leash training you should first purchase a sturdy and well made dog training collar, because you don’t want to risk your dog breaking his collar and running away. You should also make sure that the collar fits him properly. The length of the dog collar should be approximately two inches longer than the circumference of the dog’s neck. You must use a measuring tape to accurately measure the dog’s neck. To be able to get an accurate measurement, the tape should not be tight around your dog’s neck. In a collar or leash based dog leash training program, the dog is taught, at least in the beginning, a particular behavior, usually with the leash. After it is apparent the dog can show that he comprehends the particular command, the leash is then used to correct the dog when he might disobey, or when he falls short at any time. The leash is important tool when controlling and communicating with the dog in dog leash training or dog collar training. There can be many different styles of dog training, even a different training style for every trainer. These styles even vary from dog to dog, and from breed to breed. This can make finding the one that works best for you rather challenging. The right training is important if you want to have a dog that is a talented, loyal and faithful companion for you and your family. The methods of dog training that are the most successful are those that work to strengthen the relationship between dog and handler, and therefore for a training program to be considered successful it must be able to get the respect of the dog.
